Newcastle continued their late push for European football after beating Fulham 1-0.

Bruno Guimaraes crashed home a superb winner for Eddie Howe’s side at Craven Cottage after latching onto a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area.

The visitors had seen a goal ruled out just minutes before the breakthrough, with Fabian Schar’s effort chalked off for a foul from Dan Burn in the build-up.

Here, Mail Sport‘s DOMINIC HOGAN has rated the players…

FULHAM (4-2-3-1)

Bernd Leno 6

A solid display but helpless to keep out the scorching effort from Guimaraes.

Timothy Castagne 6

The full back delivered a lively showing before Newcastle applied late pressure.

Tosin Adarabioyo 7

Another assured display from a defender certain to be watched by big clubs this summer. He strode out from the back well and marshalled those around him.

Calvin Bassey 6.5

An improved performance at the heart of Marco Silva’s backline.

Antonee Robinson 7

Flickers of good link-up play down the left and dovetailed well with Willian.

Joao Palhinha 7 (Armando Broja 85)

Mopped up everything that came near him in his typically combative fashion.

Tom Cairney 6.5 (Sasa Lukic 64)

A steady enough performance but couldn’t grab the game by the scruff of its neck.

Willian 7.5 (Harry Wilson 64)

Superb. A constant danger and thrilled with tricks and flicks. Tracked back diligently.

Andreas Pereira 6.5 (Adama Traore 64)

Troubled Newcastle in the hole before being replaced shortly after the hour mark.

Alex Iwobi 6.5

A good display, albeit one lacking the magic Fulham needed.

Rodrigo Muniz 6 (Raul Jimenez 86)

Finally kept quiet after his red-hot run of form in front of goal.

MANAGER: Marco Silva – 6

A disappointing day for the Fulham boss, whose side remain mired in mid-table.

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3)

Martin Dubravka 6.5

A well-earned clean sheet. Not necessarily commanding but stood firm.

Emil Krafth 5.5

Looked exposed when trying to keep Fulham quiet down the right-hand side.

Dan Burn 6.5

The unfortunate man involved in the build-up that led to Schar’s disallowed goal. Otherwise, he made several good interceptions and barked orders throughout.

Fabian Schar 6.5

His goal was disallowed through no fault of his own. A commanding performance, aside from a couple of occasions where he was beaten in the first half.

Lewis Hall 6 (Paul Dummett 90+5)

Steady enough on a rare start but was forced off late on with apparent cramp.

Sean Longstaff 6.5

Helped keep Newcastle ticking over in the centre of the pitch but lacked composure.

Bruno Guimaraes 7

Stepped up with the memorable winner to cap off an accomplished, stylish display.

Joe Willock 6 (Elliot Anderson 40 6.5)

A sloppy day at the office before being replaced late in the first half through injury.

Jacob Murphy 6 (Harvey Barnes 65)

Just couldn’t impose himself on a scrappy match. Taken off by Eddie Howe.

Alexander Isak 6.5

Was not able to spark himself into life but proved a constant physical threat.

Anthony Gordon 7 (Matt Ritchie 90+5)

Showed signs of life with a couple of good efforts in the first half. He was the main source of drive and cutting edge for Newcastle and was involved in the winning goal.
