England and Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has selflessly donated £10,000 to the victims of the harrowing knife rampage in Southport that has left three children dead and others critically injured, with Steven Gerrard pledging the same five-figure sum.

Merseyside-born Gordon has pledged his financial support to the victims by donating the huge sum to a GoFundMe account that was set up and has now climbed above £60,000.

A 17-year-old boy has since been charged with murder after three girls were stabbed to death at the Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on Monday.

Eight other children suffered stab wounds during the shocking attack, with five of the youngsters remaining in a critical condition, as are two women who bravely tried to save them.

Gordon made the donation on Wednesday evening with his £10,000 sum the highest received by the Southport Dance Group Emergency Fund, before Liverpool legend Gerrard donated the same amount.

The pair are the top donations on the page with both Gordon and Gerrard’s names appearing next to two £10k donations, the latter following with his own pledge a couple of hours later int the evening.

Former Liverpool and England captain, Gerrard, is a legend in the city and made his donation just a day after his former club paid their respects in Southport.

Robbie Fowler and Phil Thompson both attended the scene of the tragic incident and laid a wreath alongside representatives of Everton as the two clubs came together in a show of support.

Meanwhile, investigations remain ongoing to discover a motive behind the attacker’s actions.

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said in the wake of the teenager being charged with murder: ‘Whilst these charges are a significant milestone within this investigation, this remains very much a live investigation and we continue to work with our partners from Lancashire Police and Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) to ensure we have as complete an understanding as possible of this matter.

‘I would like to thank all of the forces who have offered and supplied support to Merseyside Police during the last three days and I can confirm that we are being supported with investigative resources from across the North West.’
