Complaints regarding unwanted telemarketing calls have decreased for the third consecutive year, as confirmed by the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC reported a more than 50 percent drop in complaints compared to 2021, attributing this decline partially to increased government actions against bothersome telemarketing and phone scams.

According to the FTC, there were approximately 33,000 fewer complaints about unwanted calls in the 2024 fiscal year compared to the previous year. While the reduction encompassed various types of unwanted calls, the agency noted a significant increase of over 85 percent in complaints related to debt reduction calls.

Sam Levine, the Director of the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection, acknowledged that illegal calls continue to be a problem but praised the FTC’s approach of targeting key players and empowering the agency to address emerging risks for the decrease in complaints.
