A New York state man has been charged with killing his in-laws and their dog last week before setting their house on fire.

Robert J. Buda, 34, was initially arrested on arson charges for the January 26 fire, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said.

After the fire was put out, firefighters discovered the bodies of Paul Hait, 63, and Jo-Ann Hait, 65, who were recognized as Buda’s in-laws by News 12.

The sheriff’s department confirmed that Buda faced accusations of first-degree and second-degree murder as well as aggravated cruelty to animals. Furthermore, the charge of second-degree arson was elevated to first-degree arson.

He’s being held without bail.
