Firefighters were quick to arrive at the scene and worked tirelessly to extinguish the blaze before it could cause extensive damage. The fire is believed to have started in the heating and ventilation system on the roof, but the exact cause is still under investigation.
Emergency crews were dispatched to 1309 Veale Road at approximately 5:48 a.m. following a 911 call reporting a fire on the roof. Upon arrival, first responders confirmed flames were visible and immediately initiated an attack on the fire. As crews worked to contain the blaze, an alert was issued for heavy fire activity around the building’s HVAC units.
Shortly after, firefighters reported that the bulk of the fire was on to the roof. Multiple searches of the structure confirmed that no occupants were inside at the time of the incident.
At 6:12 a.m., Brandywine Command struck a second alarm, bringing in additional personnel and resources to assist in containing the fire. By 6:30 a.m., officials reported that the main body of the fire had been knocked down, and crews were checking for potential extension.
Firefighters continued working on the roof, later reporting that all visible flames were extinguished by approximately 6:45 a.m. At 7:16 a.m., Brandywine Command officially placed the incident under control.
In total crews remained on the scene for about two hours, performing overhaul operations and addressing remaining hot spots. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
