A teenager’s car has been rammed after he pursued a group of thieves following the theft of two luxury cars from his family home.
Mother Dani Lang’s Wheatley Road home in McKinnon was targeted by thieves twice in just three hours.
“I immediately just called the police, and my son said ‘I’m going, I’m going to go follow these, I’m going to try find these cars’,” Lang said.
Lang’s 19-year-old son followed the stolen cars for five kilometres before the stolen Mercedes reversed into his vehicle near Glenhuntly Road and Allison Street in Elsternwick.
“They slammed on brakes, revved the car and reversed full speed back into him, and then they took off,” Lang said.
Lang’s son wasn’t injured, but his car was damaged.
The stolen BMW was discovered by police on Villiers Street in Elsternwick later in the morning, where two youths fled the scene.
Police believe the stolen Mercedes was seen on Heatherton Road in Noble Park just after midday.
The male offenders who stole the BMW are described as being in their mid to late teens, with one man wearing a black jacket over a grey hoodie and grey tracksuit pants.
Another was wearing a black hoodie with an orange Nike logo in the chest area and black and grey tracksuit pants.
One of the other men, who allegedly stole the Mercedes, was wearing a dark hoodie, dark-coloured shorts and black slide-on shoes, while the other wore a light-coloured hoodie, dark pants, and dark shoes.
“Where are their parents? What are their parents, you know, what’s gone wrong that these kids are doing this kind of thing?” Lang asked.
The mother-of-three says her family is now tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket, but she says the emotional toll is much higher.
“So for them, it’s just a fun night out. But for for for the victims, it’s a lot more than that,” she said.
The latest offence in Victoria’s youth crime wave comes as the state government’s tough new bail laws officially came into effect today.
The four offenders remain on the run.
