GROVETOWN, Ga. () – A woman has been arrested on a children cruelty charge following an incident that took place at A World of Hope Daycare in Grovetown.

Jayla Roberts, 18, is accused of dragging a 4-year-old across the floor by her wrist before picking her up off of the floor by both wrists in an incident on Monday, March 24, Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens said Friday. Grovetown Police was made aware of the situation after a parent filed an incident report on Wednesday, March 26.

Roberts was interviewed at the Grovetown Police Department the following day, March 27. She was later charged with Cruelty to Children in the First Degree and taken to the Columbia County Detention Center.

According to the police department, the parent was provided with a copy of surveillance video of the situation. The parent took the child to a local medical facility, where medical staff determined “suffered a Radial Head Subluxation (Nursemaid’s Elbow).” Officers also reviewed the footage.

“While we do not believe that this was a case of overt intentional abuse, the actions of Ms. Roberts did result in the child sustaining a partially dislocated elbow,” said Chief Kitchens.

Roberts was terminated from the daycare facility, according to police.
