Terrance Williams is accused of killing a man and assaulting another back on Oct. 27. Christian Ruben Diaz-Sauceda is alleged to have been complicit in the assault.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — Police confirm two arrests have been made in connection with a fatal shooting at a Summit County Halloween party this past October.

Springfield Township Police Chief Jack Simone says two Canton residents, 24-year-old Christian Ruben Diaz-Sauceda and 23-year-old Terrance Williams, were both captured within the last three days. Williams is alleged to have been the gunman and faces charges of first-degree murder and second-degree assault, while Diaz-Sauceda is accused of complicity to commit second-degree assault.

The shooting took place on Oct. 27, 2024, at a home on Canton Road just after midnight. During the party, authorities say 39-year-old Akron native Brian Cofer was shot and killed, while a second victim suffered serious injuries due to “an apparent physical assault.”

Springfield Township police say they took Diaz-Sauceda into custody this past Wednesday, while U.S. Marshals arrested Williams on Friday.

“We recognize that these arrests cannot undo the grief and suffering caused by this senseless act of violence,” Simone said in a statement. “However, we hope this will take a step towards some measure of closure and comfort to the Cofer family and everyone affected. Our officers left no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice, and we remain committed to seeing this case through.”

The Springfield Township murder took place just hours after another fatal shooting at an Akron Halloween party less than 10 miles away, where an 18-year-old woman died and two other teens were injured. No arrests have been announced in that case, police have not indicated that the two incidents are related.
