Around 6:30 on Sunday evening, emergency responders arrived at the scene of a severe crash on Route 273, just east of Route 1, which led to several critical injuries and substantial wreckage.
Preliminary information from the site suggests that two children were thrown from a vehicle and suffered serious harm. Initial radio communications also hinted at a potential fatality, but as of now, authorities have not verified any deaths. One of the vehicles was split in two, with its debris scattered across the road.

Reports additionally mention that a New Castle County police officer was injured in the crash. The officer was trapped inside the vehicle and needed to be freed. The severity of the officer’s injuries is currently unknown.
The New Castle County Division of Police issued a public statement advising motorists to avoid the area. “Due to a collision, the roads surrounding the area of 273 and DE Route 1 will be closed,” the department stated.
Emergency response included multiple ambulance units, medics, and fire companies. Further details, including the number of vehicles involved and the condition of all individuals injured, have not been released. Authorities are expected to provide updates in the coming hours.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as road closures remain in effect.
