BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham man was arrested after the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office started a child solicitation investigation.
According to the SCSO, it received a report Jan. 4 alleging inappropriate contact between 23-year-old Griffin Nelson Race and a minor. SCSO investigators then held a forensic interview at Owens House, which is where the Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center is located.
More reports were submitted to the Shelby County Department of Human Resouces that alleged Race had inappropriate with different minors. Race was arrested Monday.
Race is charged with electronic solicitation of a child, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of child, distributing pornography to minors and traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sexual act. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail.
Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego asks those who had or know of any suspicious contact with Rice to contact SCSO investigators at 205-670-6000. The SCSO stated people can submit an anonymous tip on the SCSO’s website or call Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
