Recent data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals a remarkable decrease in southwest border crossings, hitting an all-time low of just 7,180 in March.

“Under President [Donald] Trump’s administration and [DHS] Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s guidance, decisive measures have been enforced to regain border control. Border Patrol agents now have unprecedented authority to halt illegal entries and safeguard American citizens,” stated Pete Flores, the acting CBP commissioner. “The directive is unequivocal: the border is shut to unlawful crossings, and for those daring to challenge our determination, be aware — you will face prosecution and deportation.”

The figures for March — down by 1,146 from February — signify a substantial decline compared to the 155,000 monthly average during the Biden era. When former President Joe Biden was in office, border agents frequently encountered over 7,000 entries daily.

Following the announcement, Trump defiantly declared that the border is now closed and that all those who crossed the southern border would be quickly ejected or prosecuted for crimes against the U.S.

Trump has also signed orders ending birthright citizenship, suspending refugee admissions, ending the use of an app at the southern border to admit migrants via humanitarian parole and resuming border wall construction.

Trump’s hard-line approach to illegal immigration was a key campaign promise and his administration has also been arresting and deporting criminal illegal migrants across the country under the leadership of Noem and border czar Tom Homan.
