HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. () – A Lowcountry charity has a new home, and it’s almost move-in day for the “Rays”.

Pockets Full of Sunshine says the renovations for their new building make it a brand-new day for everyone in the area.

We showed you the building first back in August. It was a great space but needed more than a hundred thousand dollars in renovations.

That work is almost complete now, and the charity says it’s an incredible transformation.

“So we really opened up the space, took a lot of walls down,” said Joe Sanders, Vice President of Operations for Construction Management Consulting Service (CMCS). “More walls down than we put back up. We converted a double bathroom to a single ADA bathroom. We removed all the hardwood flooring and polished the concrete, painted every inch of every wall, installed a new door in the in the back. And we’ll be installing some glass door, front walls in the front and a new store front entry door. We also put new ducts in the entire place and reconfigured the electrical or electrical work. I think it’s just it was really cool to take the space that this was and turn it into what it’s become. “

Pockets founders say this couldn’t have happened without hard work and community support.

“I am completely blown away by how incredible our space looks and how it’s all come together,” smiles Laurin Rivers, Pockets Full of Sunshine Co-founder. “”We just could not be more grateful to Jeff and Joe from CMC as they have been beyond words. It was great start to finish. Everything’s been ahead of schedule and under budget, which is a dream come true and rarely you get that with any sort of building project. So, it’s been totally amazing, but it’s really been the support of them, but the support of the whole community who’s come together to try to make this happen.”

And Rivers says the finishing touches will make this more than just a building but a home for the Rays.

“We have local artists. We’ve got tradesmen of all types that have just all kind of banded together and helped us in whatever way they can and continue to do so, which has really just made this dream turned it into a reality. Everybody wants a place where they can go and they belong and their place. And it’s always been our dream from day one that the Rays will also have their place in our community. And they do have a place in our community as a whole. But now we’re giving them a physical place in our community as well, which is really amazing.”

Pockets hopes to move all their programs here in the next few weeks and an official ribbon cutting should take place in May.
