While the company said all complaints have come from outside North America, it’s still recalling chocolate bars that were distributed in the U.S. as a precaution.

WASHINGTON — Tony’s Chocolonely announced it is voluntarily recalling limited lots of two of its chocolate bars because they may contain “small stones.”

The company issued the warning about its Dark Almond Sea Salt and Everything Bar on Tuesday, April 1, stressing on its U.K. website that it wasn’t an April Fools’ joke: “We wish this were an April Fools’, but we’d never kid about the quality of our products.”

The recall notice explained that “a limited number of consumers have reported finding small stones in the product not filtered during third-party almond harvesting and the almond processing process.”

While the company said all complaints so far have come from outside of North America, it’s still recalling chocolate bars that were distributed nationwide in the U.S. and Canada “in an abundance of caution.”

The affected products were distributed beginning in February 2025 and the lot numbers vary based on the region:

United States

  • Dark Almond Sea Salt 6.35 oz – lot numbers 163094, 162634, M162634
  • Everything bar (milk chocolate with caramel, pretzel, almond nougat and sea salt) 6.35 oz – lot numbers 4327, 4330, 4331, M4331.

Canada

  • Dark Almond Sea Salt 180g – lot number 162697
  • Everything bar 180g – lot number 4332

Consumers can identify whether their product is part of the recall by checking the lot code stamped near the “best before” date on the packaging. Generally, these lot codes begin with letters “L” or “M” for personalized items.

Anyone with a chocolate bar with the recalled lot numbers should either throw it out or return the product to the store where you bought it for a refund or replacement. According to Tony’s Chocolonely, if you bought the chocolate on Amazon and it matches the affected lot codes, you can initiate a refund through Amazon.

The company said that no other lot codes and no other candy is included in the recall.
