Meera Syal was crowned Star Baker on Sunday’s edition of Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer.

Comedians Adam Buxton and Meera, actor Tommy Tiernan and singer Self Esteem (Rebecca Lucy Taylor) took part in the latest episode.

The Channel 4 cooking show sees hosts Alison Hammond, 50, and Noel Fielding welcome four new stars for the Stand Up To Cancer special, with efforts being judged by Paul Hollywood, 59, and new judge Caroline Waldegrave, 72.

This week the stars had to make crumpets and jam for the Signature Bake and then a Lambeth cake for the Technical Challenge.

And for the Showstopper they had to make a savoury or sweet pie which was a tribute to their celebrity inspiration.

Meera impressed in particular with her Showstopper as she made a Frida Kahlo themed pie filled with saag paneer.

Paul branded it ‘unbelievable’ as he tried the delicious pie and later the judges awarded her Star Baker as she said she felt ‘speechless’.

It comes after last week Kate Garraway was crowned Star Baker after earning a coveted handshake from Paul Hollywood.

The beloved presenter, 57, was left speechless after host Noel announced the joyful news after the gruelling baking competition.

Almost in disbelief, the Good Morning Britain host mumbled: ‘What?’, as Noel, 51, gave her the Star Baker apron.

‘I can’t believe it! It’s the best day of my life,’ Kate said thrilled, struggling to contain her excitement on screen.

But that wasn’t the only reason to giggle on the show, as the broadcaster was left stunned when Paul Hollywood awarded her the coveted handshake for her first bake.

Kate gasped: ‘Oh my God, I got a handshake!’ before joking: ‘It felt like love – I think there was a moment where he had to unpeel my fingers.’

However her success was short lived when the technical challenge proved a nightmare for her.

Struggling with her mix, she groaned: ‘Look at the state of this… you could tarmac the M25 with it. It’s just hopeless.’

As her jam turned to concrete, she admitted: ‘I don’t think anyone’s gone from hero to zero quite so fast as I did.’

It came after the TV legend discussed the ‘triggering’ stages of grief during a moving segment with Hairy Bikers star Si King on Good Morning Britain earlier this month.

She was joined by Si, 58, on the ITV morning show and discussed the things that trigger her after her husband Derek Draper’s death.

Kate’s husband of 18 years Derek passed away at the age of 56 in January last year following a long battle with Covid.

She spoke about the difficulties of grief live on-air with Si, who lost his friend and Hairy Bikers co-star Dave Myers in February 2024 after a battle with cancer.
