Israel has denied entry to two British lawmakers who were accused of planning to “spread anti-Israel hatred.”

Over the weekend, Labour MPs Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed faced temporary detention and were refused entry into Israel. The reason, according to Israel’s immigration authority, was due to their alleged intention to “document security forces’ actions and disseminate anti-Israel sentiments,” as reported by Sky News.

Israeli authorities informed the news outlet that Yang and Mohamed were accompanied by two assistants, who had stated their visit to Israel was “as part of an official parliamentary delegation.”

The officials said that immigration agents did not find “evidence to support the claim… they were traveling as part of an official delegation.”

Mohamed commented, “On March 30, coinciding with the start of Eid, Israeli strikes on Gaza resulted in the deaths of numerous Palestinians, compounding the casualties since Israel violated the ceasefire. Currently, Israel is executing the largest forced relocations, directing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to leave Rafah. What is the eventual outcome? Israel seems relentless in its actions. Is the aim ethnic cleansing? This is what we are seeing. Is it the total obliteration of Gaza? The evidence is before us.”

In August 2019, Israeli officials blocked U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., from entering the country following pressure from President Donald Trump.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement at the time that Talib and Omar’s itinerary “revealed that they planned a visit whose sole objective is to strengthen the boycott against us and deny Israel’s legitimacy.”
