Farmer Jay Woods gave a hint about the conclusion of his experience on Farmer Wants a Wife and shared with In Touch that the final outcome took him by surprise.

“I must admit it was a really unexpected journey for me,” says the 25-year-old from Alabama. “I didn’t have a lot of preconceptions going into it, but the conclusion was definitely a surprise for me.”

The third season of Farmer Wants a Wife features four farmers — Jay, Matt Warren, John Sansone, and Colton Hendricks — as each one was introduced to eight different romantic possibilities.

After narrowing down their picks to five women, the farmers invited them to their respective farms, from California to Arkansas. There, the women got a real taste of farm life and were tested with tasks like cattle herding and avocado picking to see if they were really ready to roll up their sleeves and leave the city lifestyle behind.

The former football player admits the fast pace of the show forced him to confront things head-on and communicate more than he would in a normal dating situation.

“I think the biggest thing I learned is just being able to speak about my feelings a little bit more and dive deeper into conversations you might not have until like a month or two in talking to somebody,” he says. “You’re doing that kind of week one or day one, so I definitely broadened my communication piece. I would say that.”

Jay did say that he wished he “spent a little more time with each lady individually,” adding, “It was very rushed in my eyes.” However, it seems to have worked out in the end for Jay, as he seemed pleased with the show’s ending, telling In Touch, “I think I did what I came to do.”

Fans will have to tune into Farmer Wants a Wife to see if Jay’s journey ends in romance. Although it’s unclear who Jay selected as his final choice, he early on had a connection with Grace Clark – a 23-year-old nanny from Washington — selecting her for special one-on-one time in his hometown after meeting her for the first time during the March 20 premiere.

For their date, the bachelor took her to a game in his hometown, where they watched a local high school team play from the bleachers. Afterward, they shared a picnic moment sitting on the football field, sipping beers under the stars as they connected on their hopes for the future.

“My dream is I want to get married, and I want to stay home and raise my kids,” she told him. “I only grew up with one sibling, so I think it would be fun, like, to have a lot of kids, like four.”

Jay admired Grace’s passion for being a hands-on mom, especially since family had always been a crucial support system in his own life.

“Football is my life. I thought that I was gonna be playing on Friday nights in the NFL,” he opened up to her during their date. “But when it didn’t work that way, I went through a pretty dark spot in my life. But my family really helped me get through it.”

Farmer Wants a Wife airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on FOX, with episodes available to stream on Hulu the following day.
