‘The View’ Praises Michelle Obama For “Doing Her Thing” Amid Divorce Rumors: “Leave Her The Hell Alone”

The hosts of The View began today’s show by standing up for former First Lady Michelle Obama. This comes in the wake of rumors circulating about her and former President Barack Obama possibly divorcing.

Speculation arose when Michelle did not attend high-profile events such as President Donald Trump’s inauguration or former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier this year. However, during a recent appearance on Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast, Michelle dismissed these rumors. She explained to Bush, “I had the opportunity to look at my calendar, which I did this year, and chose to prioritize what was best for me, not what others expected me to do,” as reported by NBC News.

Michelle further elaborated, saying, “As women, I believe we often struggle with the fear of disappointing others. It reached a point this year where people couldn’t comprehend that I was prioritizing myself, and they jumped to conclusions that my husband and I were separating.”

On The View, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were quick to praise Michelle for putting herself first.

“I love what she said though. Can’t it just be a grown woman making decisions for herself? If you think about it, she has been in the public eye a bit begrudgingly. She didn’t run for office, her husband ran for office. She did a wonderful job,” Hostin said, before adding, “She’s thinking about Michelle Obama right now. She’s in her era. She’s doing her thing.”

Navarro, for her part, described Michelle as a “woman who does not suffer fools.” When she hosted the Obama family at her ex’s hotel back in 2007, Navarro remembered Michelle telling Barack to be back to their room by 5 p.m. to have dinner with their kids — and “at 4:59 p.m., that guy was like Cinderella about to turn into a pumpkin.”

“I think that there is incredible mutual respect in that relationship and that she knows exactly who she is, what is good for her, what is good for her family,” Navarro added. “Leave her the hell alone.”

Sara Haines also understood why Michelle would want to skip certain events.

“She no longer has to fall in line and considering the times we’re living in and how they were treated at certain times,” she said. “Deep respect for President Carter’s passing but you don’t have to go sit at a funeral for a gazillion hours when you have other plans.”

As for what they thought about Michelle skipping Trump’s inauguration, Navarro exclaimed, “Good for her for not going!”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
