BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a shooting that killed two people last year.
On August 21, 2024, West Precinct officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of 30th Street Southwest on a report of a person shot. Officers found a victim on the front porch, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Kayla Warren, 28, of Birmingham, was transported to UAB Hospital, where police say she died from her injuries.
A second victim later arrived at Princeton Hospital via private vehicle. The second victim, identified as Na’Bryan Adams, 20, of Birmingham, later died from his injuries.
On April 10, members of the BPD’s Special Operations Division’s Crime Reduction Team located the suspect and took him into custody in the 1900 block of Princeton Court. The suspect has been identified as Jamil Carillo-Jemison, 23, of Birmingham.
Carillo-Jemison was placed on a 48-hour felony extension at the Birmingham City Jail. On Saturday, detectives with the BPD presented case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Carillo-Jemison was issued a warrant for capital murder.
The suspect is in custody at the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
