Senior Pastor Marcos Bosque says the man killed was Joe Clark, who he called a ‘Godly man.’ His grandson was injured in the shooting.
CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have confirmed that the individuals involved in the shooting in Deerwood Village, Woodbine, on Sunday night were a grandfather and his grandson. The grandfather, named by his pastor as Joe Clark, succumbed to his injuries.
Senior Pastor Marcos Bosque shared that Clark had been a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Harriett’s Bluff and had recently marked his 41st wedding anniversary. This church is located just a short distance from the scene of the incident, where Clark was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Bosque described Clark as a “Godly man.” He said Clark’s mother, who also attended the church, is heartbroken.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office reported that Clark was discovered with several gunshot wounds in the middle of the road. He was urgently taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition but unfortunately passed away there.
The sheriff’s office said a child was also shot in the arm during the incident. The child was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police are still investigating and reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
“We owe it to this community to conduct a thorough, unbiased investigation — and that’s exactly what we intend to do,” Sheriff Kevin Chaney said.
Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has surveillance footage from Deerwood Village or Harriett’s Bluff to contact Sgt. Fortner at (912) 674-9485 or by email at mafortner@camdensheriff.org.
