(The Hill) – President Trump is expected to announce Monday at the White House that the NFL draft is coming to the nation’s capital in 2027, a source familiar with the announcement confirmed to The Hill.

Trump is scheduled to make a “sports announcement” at 1 p.m., according to public guidance issued by the White House. A source confirmed that Trump is slated to share that the NFL draft will soon take place in Washington, D.C., with the goal of holding it on the National Mall.

A White House spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

Axios first reported on the announcement, noting that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris are expected to join Trump at the White House.

The NFL draft has rotated the host location in recent years among various cities. The 2026 draft is set to take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The three-day event typically draws thousands of fans to the host site.

Trump has repeatedly inserted himself into various sporting events in the early months of his second term. He attended the Super Bowl in February, the Daytona 500 and an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event last month.

The president weighed in during last month’s NFL draft, which was held in Green Bay, Wis., to question why so many teams were passing on quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Sanders was eventually drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 5th round.
