Netflix has granted us our first substantial glimpse into Squid Game Season 3 — other than that intriguing Season 2 post-credits scene featuring the enormous murderous doll Young-hee and her companion. This initial Squid Game Season 3 teaser trailer updates us on what’s next for Seong Gi-hun, aka Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae), while hinting at new games, the return of foes, and the sound of an infant crying.

The conclusion of Squid Game Season 2 saw Player 456 endeavoring to incite a rebellion against the lethal game’s guards and masterminds. Although Gi-hun and his associates made significant progress, they were ultimately betrayed by Player 001 (Lee Byung-hun), whom they were unaware was actually the Front Man! Gi-hun’s faithful companion Park Jung-bae, aka Player 390 (Lee Seo-hwan), is slain right before him. Most of the revolutionary players are also killed, aside from the treacherous Dae-ho (Kang Ha-neul) and transgender Player 120 (Park Sung-soon). What unfolds next?

The inaugural Squid Game Season 3 trailer hints at a scene where the guards transport one of the pink ribbon-wrapped black coffins into the players’ dormitory. Gi-hun is found inside and soon regains consciousness, reinstated into the game. We then catch sight of a novel feature in Squid Game: a gumball machine dispensing red or blue balls. From subsequent scenes, it seems this is how the game designers are splitting the remaining players into two factions. Gi-hun receives a red ball, as do nurturing mother Player 149 (Kang Ae-shim) and ex-bouncer Player 124 (Roh Jae-won). 149’s son, Player 007 (Yang Dong-geun), and Player 120 select blue.

New photos from Netflix also confirm that exes/expectant parents Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) and Lee Myung-gi (Yim Si-was) get assigned to the red team, leading us to guess that red will likely prevail. (Just a theory, though!)

During the rest of the teaser, we see the return of the villainous VIPs, Gi-hun walking through a set that is reminiscent of where he once played marbles, and the Front Man back in his comfy chair, watching the horror play out for his amusement.

The final shot of the trailer is of the pregnant Jun-hee, aka Player 222. There is a single tear cascading down her face. After the title card for Squid Game 3 disappears, we can hear a baby crying. (Man, it would really suck to go into labor during Squid Game.)

The third and final season of Squid Game premieres on June 27 on Netflix.
