Rivian is receiving $16 million in state incentives to assist in building a new 1.2 million-square-foot supplier park near its EV production facility in Normal, Illinois, as announced by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Rivian today. As part of the agreement, Rivian will invest nearly $120 million in the project, expected to directly generate around 100 new jobs. Governor Pritzker stated in a press release that Rivian’s investment will create “an entire ecosystem” to attract global investment, create jobs, and “strengthen the EV manufacturing supply chain.”

According to Rivian, the supplier park is already under construction and is set to be completed by 2026. It will include an underground tunnel connecting it to the main plant, facilitating parts transfer without adding to local traffic. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe described the park as a “key enabler” for producing the upcoming R2 vehicle. Scaringe also shared an image of the new Maximus drive unit on Instagram that will be used in the two-row electric SUV, planned for next year.

Scaringe further noted that the supplier park will boost production capacity for the current R1T and R1S vehicles, along with commercial vans, which are now open for sale to all commercial enterprises.
