NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb has resigned with almost two years left on her term.

During a parliamentary session, Police Minister Yasmin Catley declared that Webb has resigned three years into her scheduled five-year term and is set to depart from her position on September 30.

“She has provided a lengthy notice period to enable the government to conduct a thorough recruitment process for her successor,” Catley said.

Webb was also investigated over the taxpayer-funded purchase of 50 bottles of gin which were handed out as gifts and charity donations.

She called the allegations about a conflict of interest “completely false” and ”solely intended to damage my personal reputation”.

While the investigation cleared her of wrongdoing, it cautioned Webb that she should have disclosed her relationship with the gin supplier.

The state opposition has thanked Webb for her service.

“I thank Commissioner Webb for her long and loyal service in her various roles in the NSW Police Force,” Opposition Leader Mark Speakman said.

“The Minns Labor government must now move quickly to confirm who will lead the force.

“Our police do an extraordinary job and deserve strong, steady leadership.”
