President Trump on Tuesday teased that a “big announcement” is coming before he leaves for his trip to the Middle East early next week.

“I think before then we’re going to have a very, very big announcement to make. Like, as big as it gets and I won’t tell you on what. But, and it’s very positive. I’d tell you if it was negative or positive, I can’t keep that out. It is really, really positive,” the president said, sitting alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office.

The president is leaving for the Middle East on Monday and said that his announcement will be made on Thursday, Friday or Monday before he departs. He is set to visit Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar on his trip, which is expected to end on May 16.

“It will be one of the most important announcements that has been made in many years about a certain subject, very important subject. So, you’ll all be here,” the president added.

Carney responded before he began his opening remarks, “I’m on the edge of my seat” and Trump tapped his leg and laughed.

The president’s trip has renewed hope for some American-Israeli families of hostages held by Hamas that there could be a break through between Hamas and Israel to bring their family members home.

Trump has said he is working towards an end to the war and has been chasing a major diplomatic breakthrough in brokering ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel, but Riyadh is holding back over Israel’s insistence on continuing the war.
