$5M in drugs seized at South Texas port of entry, CBP says

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized about $5 million worth of illegal drugs from two passenger vehicles trying to cross into Eagle Pass, Texas, from Mexico, the agency says.

Meth seizure

On Sunday, found 164 pounds of meth worth $3.3 million in a passenger vehicle driven by a 39-year-old U.S. citizen at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry from Piedras Negras, Mexico, CBP says. .

The 74 packages of drugs were discovered in the floorboard of the woman’s car after an alert from a canine team. Officers found the drugs using nonintrusive inspection equipment.

“This drug bust is a prime example of the efficient targeting strategies utilized in the passenger processing environment to help combat the flow of dangerous narcotics seeping into our communities,” Eagle Pass Port Director Pete Beattie said.

Hard narcotics bust

On May 1, CBP officers at the Eagle Pass port of entry confiscated $1.7 million in mixed hard narcotics they say was hidden through a passenger vehicle.

The drugs seized included 95 pounds of cocaine in 39 packages; 26 pounds of methamphetamine in 11 packages; and 14 pounds of heroin in six packages, CBP says.

The drugs were found concealed in different parts of an SUV driven by a 39-year-old Mexican woman, CBP says.

“We remain committed to working closely with our federal, state, and international partners to prevent dangerous drugs from entering our communities. These efforts underscore our mission to safeguard the American public while facilitating lawful trade and travel,” Beattie said.
