Amazon is broadening its prescription medication offerings to cater to your pets as well. Thanks to a partnership with Vetsource revealed on Thursday, Amazon now provides “hundreds of prescription pet medications” for US customers directly through its platform. These medications include treatments for issues such as fleas, ticks, and chronic ailments.

To find these prescription pet medications, simply use Amazon’s search bar and then enter your veterinarian’s information during the checkout process. Medications purchased on Amazon will be handled and shipped by Vetsource’s online pet pharmacy. Delivery is expected to take anywhere from two to six days.

For initial orders, Vetsource will reach out to your veterinarian for approval. However, Amazon notes that refills can “usually be processed without additional veterinarian contact” if your prescription remains active on your account. All medications available through Amazon are FDA approved, and the range of drugs offered will grow over time.

The selling point here, much like when Amazon first launched its human-focused online pharmacy service in 2020, is convenience. Being able to order flea, worming, and other essential pet care prescriptions alongside everyday shopping items is convenient for everyone, but especially people who have mobility issues or live in rural areas and would otherwise have to make their way to a vet’s office or pharmacy location. It also puts Amazon more in line with competing online pharmacy services like Walmart, which launched its own service for pet medications in 2019.
