(NEXSTAR) — Igloo is broadening a recall initiated in February, which originally included over 1 million of its 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, after the company reported receiving 78 cases of fingertip injuries, 26 instances of fingertip amputations, as well as cases involving bone fractures and cuts.

Currently, the company is recalling an additional 130,000 coolers in the U.S. due to the same concern. As noted in the recall expansion, the cooler’s towing handle is capable of pinching user fingertips, presenting risks of fingertip amputation and/or cuts. It is advised that customers cease using the coolers immediately.

Affected cooler models:

Model/SKU # Description Date codes
34692 Latitude 90-quart roller 07/2020-09/2021
34785 Latitude 90-quart roller 10/2021-12/2022
34790 Maxcold Latitude 90-quart roller 10/2021-02/2023

The recall only involves cooler models manufactured before January 2024.

How to identify the recalled coolers:

  • Manufacture date (before January 2024) can be found imprinted on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern. Customers should find an arrow pointing to the manufacture month and the last two digits of the manufacture year
  • Recalled coolers have a tow handle
  • “IGLOO” is printed on the side of the coolers
  • Came in a variety of colors

The Igloo coolers affected by this recall were available for purchase at Costco, Target, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Dick’s, and other stores nationwide. Additionally, they were sold online through Igloo’s website and Amazon.

Customers with the affected models are advised to contact Igloo for a free replacement handle, the company says. You can call Igloo at (888) 943-5182 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday-Friday. Customers can also visit Igloo’s recall page for further information.

For questions or concerns not addressed in the recall, consumers can also contact the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
