Marcus Rashford looks set to be denied a move to AC Milan.

The Manchester United winger has been heavily rumored to depart from Old Trafford, with talkSPORT earlier indicating that AC Milan has escalated their interest in signing him.

However, with the seven-time European champions instead making Kyle Walker their priority, Rashford will likely have to look elsewhere.

Due to Serie A registration regulations, Milan can only acquire one of the two English players. TalkSPORT reveals that Walker is poised to be confirmed as joining on loan from Manchester City, with an option for a permanent transfer.

Clubs are only permitted to register a maximum of two new non-EU players to their squad each season.

That number is limited to one unless a non-EU player leaves the club during the campaign.

With the United Kingdom leaving the European Union in 2020, English players are classed as non-EU in Serie A.

This situation means Milan can presently register either Rashford or Walker, forcing the Manchester United star to explore opportunities elsewhere.

talkSPORT understands that Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has held a meeting with Rashford’s representatives, while Barcelona, Juventus and Monaco are said to be interested.

The Bundesliga side are understood to be exploring a loan deal until the end of the season.

Rashford hasn’t played football since he gave a bombshell interview to talkSPORT contributor Henry Winter on December 17, saying he’s ‘ready for a new challenge’.

Yet with just a week left of the January window, Rashford is yet to find that new challenge, and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan thinks it’s on the player.

“He was big enough to tell the world he wanted to leave one of the world’s biggest football clubs,” the talkSPORT host said.

“He won’t take any concessions and probably won’t take any haircut financially to do it.

“This is a person who’s getting paid £17million a year that hasn’t played very well and doesn’t look like he wants to play very well.

“Perhaps there are activities off the field that are effecting his performance and all of this is meant to be considered by other people during a business transaction.

“I think it’s silly sentimental rubbish.”

Meanwhile, United legend Rio Ferdinand has told talkSPORT that he hopes a deal happens for the player’s sake.

Rio Ferdinand calls on Marcus Rashford & Alejandro Garnacho to leave so he can ‘see them smiling again’

“Players are going away and looking like they’re spreading their wings and breathing again and they look light, [Scott] McTominay looks brilliant, look at [Anthony] Elanga at Nottingham Forest, even [Jadon] Sancho looks like a different person at Chelsea.

“If I’m sitting with Rashford and advising him now I’m saying ‘just go’. McTominay should be the guy you want to follow, he’s enjoying his life.

“Forget everything else, Rashford’s face on a football pitch it looks like he hasn’t enjoyed football for three years. I want to see these kids smiling.”
