SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A boil water advisory is impacting 64 residents in a Springfield neighborhood where recent repairs were made to a water main, with expectations to persist over the weekend.

City Water, Light and Power has announced that those affected by this boil advisory will be notified directly, including individuals residing on Star Avenue, Mars Avenue, and Neptune Avenue, all located within Skyline Heights in Springfield. Following protocol, the water main underwent flushing and several water samples were collected. However, one batch of these samples did not completely satisfy CWLP’s water quality criteria.

Further water quality tests will verify compliance with all standards, at which point the boil advisory will be rescinded. Meanwhile, as a safety measure, affected individuals are encouraged to boil all tap water for drinking or cooking purposes until the advisory is lifted, anticipated to be on Monday, May 12.

Water should be brought to a “rolling” boil for five minutes and then cooled before use. When the order is lifted, it will be announced by door-to-door notifications to those who are affected.

People who want more information on their water service can call the Water Communications Desk at 217-789-2323 ext. 2.
