Sabu has died: WWE star was 60

The 60-year old was known for his hardcore wrestling style and became a rising star wrestling for the Extreme Championship Wrestling.

WASHINGTON — Professional wrestling star Sabu has died. He was 60. 

His death was confirmed on Sunday by WWE and a cause of death has not been disclosed. 

WWE has announced with sorrow the passing of Terry Brunk, better known to wrestling enthusiasts as Sabu. The statement on WWE’s social media expressed, “WWE extends its condolences to Sabu’s family, friends, and fans.”

Sabu, originally named Terry Brunk, was the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer “The Sheik.” Recognized for his intense hardcore wrestling style, the 60-year-old gained fame while performing for Extreme Championship Wrestling.

In 2006, Sabu joined WWE during the revival of the ECW brand. He faced Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship and battled John Cena for the WWE Championship, as stated by the company.

According to WWE, Sabu left the company in 2007 and “continued to travel the world as sports-entertainment’s human highlight reel.” 

Sabu’s last wrestling match was nearly a month ago against Joey Janela in Last Vegas. 

Sabu was an EWC Heavyweight Champion and a two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He was known for jumping from chairs and driving his opponents through tables.
