At about 11.20pm, police were called to Donald Street in Yennora, where they were told a 29-year-old man had been driving a truck when a vehicle stopped in front of him.
A man got out of the vehicle and fired several shots at the truck, before he got back in the vehicle and fled the scene.
The truck driver was treated at the scene for gunshot wounds to his wrist and abdomen before he was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A short time later, emergency services responded to reports of a black Lexus sedan on fire on Dixmude Street, South Granville, and a second vehicle alight on Boundary Road, Chester Hill.
Both blazes have since been extinguished.
Police are investigating whether the shooting and the car fires are linked.
