French film icon Gérard Depardieu has been convicted by a Paris court of sexually assaulting two women, an offense for which he received an 18-month suspended sentence on Tuesday.
He was also fined a total of 29,040 euros (around $32,350), and the court requested that he be registered in the national sex offender database.
The 76-year-old was found guilty of groping a 54-year-old set decorator and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming of “Les Volets Verts” (“The Green Shutters”) in 2021. This case is considered a significant test in the post-#MeToo era for handling sexual misconduct allegations against high-profile individuals in France’s film industry.
