SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah Arts Academy girls’ soccer team is one win away from capturing its first state championship in the sport.

The Lady Panthers entered the Class AA playoffs as the No. 3 seed. They steamrolled through the first two rounds outscoring their opponents 20-nil.

In the quarterfinals, they faced off against a well-known adversary, their regional rival Pierce County, a team they had already defeated twice in the regular season. They secured a narrow 1-0 victory.

In the semifinals, they faced a Morgan County team who had only surrendered one goal in the entire playoffs. They walked out with a 3-2 win.

Now it all comes down to Thursday and the chance to make a dream come true.

“Right now, the main focus is on getting everyone as close to 100 percent healthy as possible,” stated head coach Jdhordane Williams. “The tournament has been long; this is our fifth game. Can we return to full health? Then, we’ll regroup here, stretch a bit, revisit our fundamentals, and begin reviewing some game footage to identify potential advantages we can exploit in the upcoming match.”

The GHSA Class AA girls soccer state championship featuring Pike County against Savannah Arts Academy is scheduled for May 16 at 5 p.m., taking place at Mercer University in Macon.
