Former Chicago Bears players have had several opportunities for reunions over time. Sadly, this particular gathering was for the funeral of a beloved member, making it a solemn occasion.

Bears Hall of Famer Dan Hampton greeted former Bear James Thornton. The two were among a large contingent of former Bears paying their respects.

Among the notable players were Jim McMahon, Otis Wilson, Gary Fencik, Kevin Buttler and Bears chairman George McCaskey.

Former pro wrestler Ric Flair, a good friend from McMichael’s pro wrestling days, was also there, along with his widow Misty and their daughter Macy.

Steve “Mongo” McMichael died last month after a long battle with ALS, which left him unable to speak or even move in for the last year.

Tom Waddle, who played with the Bears, said, “McMichael had a 15-season career in the NFL, spending all but one of those with the Bears, including their victorious 1985 Super Bowl season. He was probably the most vibrant personality among a team known for its unique characters.”

Fred Mitchell, who reported on McMichael and his team for the Chicago Tribune, was among the many supporters who pushed for McMichael’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last August.

Many of his former teammates were at his south suburban home for the Hall of Fame ceremony. For some, it would be the last time they would see him alive.

Destroyed buildings and burned cars are scattered at both sides of the road. There, hidden on basements of abandoned houses, the Ukrainian Volunteer Army hold their positions against relentless attacks by Russian forces. Under the threat of the enemyâs artillery, that echoes through the village, soldiers hold their fortified positions in shifts of 12h.
