NEOGA, Ill. (WCIA) — A crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck occurred in Neoga on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, as reported by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office.
Chief Deputy Coroner Josh Pointer from Cumberland County confirmed the incident took place on Interstate 57 near the US-45 milepost 177. He noted that the identities of the deceased are being withheld until their families are informed.
The Illinois State Police and the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
NEOGA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois State Police are currently investigating the scene of the crash on Interstate 57 in Neoga, where “at least” one person has lost their life in the collision between a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck.
At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, Illinois State Police Troop 9 responded to I-57 northbound near US-45 milepost 177 for the report of a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck. Preliminary information shows that the vehicle crossed from the southbound into the northbound lanes and struck the semi-truck.
The vehicle became fully engulfed in fire, and at this time, at least one occupant from the vehicle has been declared deceased.
Additionally, I-57 northbound lanes will be shut down for an extended period of time. This is an active investigation and there is no further information at this time.
