Iran foreign minister vows nuclear enrichment will continue 'with or without a deal'

Iran’s foreign minister said Sunday that regardless of whether a nuclear deal is reached with the U.S., enrichment will continue.

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi addressed negotiations between Iran and the U.S. in a post on X regarding Iran’s “peaceful nuclear program.”

In the statement, Araghchi noted that U.S. officials involved in the negotiations are at liberty to say whatever they wish to deter special interest groups or adversarial entities influencing the agendas of prior administrations.

“Iran can only control our own actions, and that involves avoiding public negotiations—especially given the current inconsistency we observe between public statements made by our U.S. counterparts and their private communications, which vary from one week to the next,” Araghchi stated. “Our position on Iran’s entitlements as a [Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty] member is unequivocal, and under no circumstances will Iranians allow deviation from this.

“They are nearing the capability to produce a nuclear weapon. Should they choose to progress, they could achieve it swiftly. By amassing a sufficient amount of 60% enriched uranium, they could rapidly elevate it to 90% and weaponize it. This is the imminent threat we are currently facing. This is the pressing concern,” he remarked.

The president also said Thursday in the United Arab Emirates that the U.S. and Iran have “sort of” agreed to terms on a nuclear deal.

“Iran has sort of agreed to the terms. They’re not going to make — I call it, in a friendly way — nuclear dust,” Trump told reporters. “We’re not going to be making any nuclear dust in Iran.”
