Australia, along with 22 other nations, has accused Israel of politicizing humanitarian aid to Gaza, urging for the complete restoration of crucial supplies to the beleaguered area.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared yesterday that a “basic amount of food” would be permitted entry into Gaza after a two-month blockade halting all food, fuel, and medical supplies.
He said the decision came at the recommendation of the Israeli Defence Forces and in support of expanded ground operations in Gaza.
“As humanitarian donors, we have two simple messages for the Israeli government: allow immediate, full access to aid in Gaza, and let the UN and humanitarian organizations operate independently and fairly to preserve lives, alleviate suffering, and uphold dignity,” stated the declaration.
“We remain committed to meeting the acute needs we see in Gaza.”
The countries also demanded that Hamas immediately release all remaining hostages and allow humanitarian aid to be delivered without interference.
The statement ended with a call for a ceasefire and a two-state solution.
