Bradford County Jail correctional staff performed a body scan on the man and discovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun attached to his belt buckle.

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. — A man attempting to enter the Bradford County Jail with a concealed, loaded firearm was intercepted by staff during the booking process on Sunday, according to a social media update by the sheriff’s office on Tuesday.

An unidentified arrestee was taken to jail Sunday on charges of driving under the influence, the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office said.

As part of the intake procedure, correctional officers conducted a body scan and found a loaded .22 caliber handgun concealed within a belt buckle designed to hide small firearms, as stated by law enforcement.

The gun was confiscated and turned over as evidence.

The individual faces charges for introducing contraband into a correctional facility, which is a third-degree felony. This offense carries potential penalties of up to five years in prison, five years of probation, and a $5,000 fine.

“This incident could have had such a different outcome if not for the diligence and attention to detail of these officers,” the sheriff’s office said on social media.
