Schumer's batty boat-crash blame: Letters
Share this @internewscast.com

The Issue: Sen. Chuck Schumer’s claim that Coast Guard cuts caused the Brooklyn Bridge ship collision.

Sen. Chuck Schumer is a disgrace (“Schumer adrift on DOGE cuts,” May 19).

Making political points on a tragedy that cost the lives of two cadets is beyond belief.

I served in the US Coast Guard for four years, and we would not have been involved with the ship before the accident.

Do the nation a favor, Schumer, and stop making comments on things you know nothing about.

Bruce Collins

Middletown, NJ

When the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore fell due to a cargo ship accident, nobody held then-President Joe Biden or any government officials responsible.

The ship lost power and crashed.

Everyone rallied in support, searching for survivors and assessing the damage.

It was an accident.

Authorities reported that the captain of the Mexican ship that crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge lost control when the boat lost power.

It was also an accident, but Schumer rushed to blame President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency.

Betty Schwartz

Livingston, NJ

Just when it seemed that Schumer’s comments couldn’t sink further, he insinuated that Trump’s efforts to eliminate government waste might be to blame for a Mexican ship hitting the Brooklyn Bridge.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a very serious mental disorder that rules the Democratic Party.

It’s absolutely amazing.

Anything that goes on in the entire world has the Democrats screaming: “It’s Trump’s doing”— unless it’s something positive.

This is getting very old.

Schumer should retire and slink into the mud where he belongs.

Jean Cole

Juno Beach, Fla.

Schumer says DOGE cuts are partly to blame for the Mexican navy ship’s collision into the Brooklyn Bridge.

But cuts to the US Coast Guard’s staffing are in no way related to what happened.

He really has no idea what he’s talking about.

This was an unfortunate accident due to a mechanical failure on the Cuauhtémoc.

It’s known that Schumer dislikes Trump and is inclined to blame everything on him.

What’s he going to do next?

Blame the tornados that ravished Kentucky on Trump?

Senator, you need to stop pointing your finger at the president.

Rob Johann

Queens

Schumer has the audacity to claim that the Mexican ship crashed because of DOGE cuts.

Really, Charles?

Obviously, you’re still trying to decry everything the Trump administration has accomplished.

Your worry now is not DOGE, but the extreme loons looking to oust you from your cushy position in DC.

The Issue: The City Council introducing only 114 bills so far this year, an 86% drop compared to 2024.

Everyone should be happy that the City Council has only introduced 114 bills this year (“Council ina-bill-ity,” May 18).

Hopefully, none will pass, but that’s probably wishful thinking.

Tom Gagan

Mount Vernon

Less inane legislation is better.

The City Council’s lenient approaches to crime, anti-police actions, unchecked spending, and progressive cultural decay highlight their lack of consideration for the typical working New Yorker.

Joseph Valente

Staten Island

Is it really bad that the leftist council isn’t introducing more bills?

I’d be happy if it passes zero.

Can you name one bill this council has passed that’s made our lives easier or didn’t take away more of our freedoms?

Yet the lemmings of this city will continue to vote for these leftist clowns.

Chris Quattrocchi

Staten Island
