The GameCube wireless controller, designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2, is now available for pre-order to Switch Online subscribers. Priced at $64.99, customers are restricted to purchasing one per account. Those who place an order will receive the controller on the Switch 2’s release date, June 5th. Unlike Nintendo’s previous pre-order events, there’s no virtual queue this time around.

While the original Switch supported GameCube controllers through a plug-to-USB adapter or newer third-party USB versions, the new wireless controller has more limited game compatibility. It is not confirmed to work with backwards compatible titles on the Switch 2, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Instead, it is intended for use with GameCube games available on Switch Online’s Expansion Pack tier, which will initially feature titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Soulcalibur 2.

This updated GameCube controller includes USB-C charging and a C button designated for activating GameChat features. Additionally, GameChat will be freely accessible to Nintendo Switch 2 users until March 31st, 2026.

Update, May 22nd: Preorders have opened again for the wireless GameCube controller, so we’ve updated this post with relevant information.
