Elden Ring is set to evolve from just a popular video game into a cinematic experience. On Thursday, Bandai Namco and A24 revealed plans for a live-action Elden Ring movie, to be directed by Alex Garland.
The game, developed by Japanese studio FromSoftware, launched on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in 2022, with a version for Nintendo Switch 2 slated for release this year. The action RPG quickly gained a massive following as players took on the role of a Tarnished, tasked with restoring the Elden Ring through battles with formidable bosses across the Lands Between. Additionally, the Elden Ring spinoff titled Nightreign is scheduled for release on May 30th, 2025.
Garland is a writer, director, and producer best known for films like Ex Machina, 28 Days Later, and Dredd.
In 2022, FromSoftware hinted at expanding Elden Ring “beyond the realm of games.” George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire and collaborator on the game’s story, mentioned last year, “There is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring.” Earlier this month, Nexus Point News initially reported the adaptation with A24 but later retracted the article without an explanation.
