The Coalition’s recent split is expected to resolve swiftly as the Liberal Party has conceded to the Nationals’ four major policy demands, allowing the longstanding political alliance to be reinstated.

Merely three days after Nationals leader David Littleproud declared that the Coalition agreement would not be renewed, Liberal MPs and senators came together at a party room meeting. They showed conditional support for key issues such as nuclear energy, substantial regional investments, improved regional phone coverage, and supermarket divestiture powers.

The Liberals have opted for a more moderate stance on nuclear energy compared to the Coalition’s previous election campaign, focusing only on removing the federal prohibition on nuclear power rather than committing to building seven nuclear power plants across the nation.

While talks between Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and Littleproud continue, the concessions from both parties could see the Coalition agreement officially signed off on in the coming days, and a shadow cabinet composed of both Liberal and National MPs to be unveiled before parliament resumes.
