A dingo was stabbed following an incident where it bit a nine-year-old boy on K’Gari in Queensland.

Authorities reported that the dingo wandered away after being stabbed by a passerby who witnessed the bite episode at Yidney Rocks today.

The boy was taken to the mainland by marine rescue teams for hospital treatment, where he is currently in stable condition.

The latest attack has promoted a warning from authorities as tourists continue to flock to K’gari.

Almost two years ago a 23-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a pack that tried to drag her into the water.

She was saved thanks to the help of a stranger.

The last fatal attack was in 2001 when a nine-year-old boy was killed and his seven-year-old brother left seriously injured.

In recent years dingo sticks have been handed out in a bid to better protect visitors.

Fraser Coast Deputy Mayor Sara Faraj urged visitors to remain vigilant while on the island.

“We do have dingoes around, we have so much wildlife immersed in the beautiful nature that is K’Gari Fraser Island.

“We want to protect that but we still want people to experience it so there’s a fine line in balancing.”

It is illegal to kill the protected species.

Late last year a man was fined $5000 and sentenced to 240 hours of community service for shooting a dingo with a spear gun.
