Watch live: Trump signs executive orders on nuclear energy

President Trump is signed executive orders from the Oval Office Friday afternoon related to nuclear energy and standards of science.

The president signed four orders, including one that directs an evaluation of whether the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is too cautious in terms of acceptable levels of radiation exposure. Another order is expected to allow the Energy and Defense departments to build nuclear reactors on federally owned lands, allowing nuclear energy to power defense and artificial intelligence operations.

Broadly, the Trump administration has sought to bolster domestic energy production from sources including fossil fuels and nuclear.

The ceremony came a day after House Republicans pushed through their “one big, beautiful” spending package full of Trump’s legislative priorities which includes steep cuts to energy tax credits, with the exception of nuclear projects. The bill now faces a steep climb in the Senate.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
