Kieran Trippier still wants to leave Newcastle and Jose Mourinho could offer escape route

Kieran Trippier is pushing to leave Newcastle amid interest from Turkey, talkSPORT understands.

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, along with Besiktas, are some of the teams that have shown interest in Newcastle’s Trippier, as the transfer window in Turkey remains open until September 13.

Eddie Howe has made it clear he wants to keep the former England international.

“Absolutely, I want Kieran here,” Howe said recently.

“That hasn’t changed, and that won’t change.”

However, the 33-year-old defender is seeking pastures new after two-and-a-half seasons with Newcastle.

Trippier has found himself on the bench for Newcastle’s initial three Premier League games this season, with Tino Livramento being favored for the starting position.

The right-back did start for the Magpies in their Carabao Cup second round win over Nottingham Forest.

He recently announced his retirement from international duty as Livramento took his place in the England squad.

A move to either Fenerbahce or Besiktas would ensure Trippier plays European football this season, with both clubs qualifying for the Europa League.

Should Trippier move to Fenerbahce, it would mark the first time he has been managed by Mourinho, who is in charge of the Turkish giants.

If Trippier were to switch clubs, he would join forces once more with the dynamic French winger Allan Saint-Maximin, who is currently on a season-long loan from Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli.

Besiktas are led by former Rangers boss Giovani van Bronckhorst and finished sixth in the Turkish Super Lig last season.

The former Tottenham defender was also linked with a move to fellow Premier League side Everton, but it failed to materialise.

Trippier moved to Newcastle in January 2022 from Atletico Madrid for just £12million and made an instant impact as Howe steered the club away from relegation danger.
