SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Fire hydrant testing is set to begin in Springfield this week.
The Springfield Fire Department, in partnership with City Water Light and Power, will commence testing on May 27. These tests will be conducted Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will continue until July 31.
The fire department has stated that these tests are necessary to ensure the hydrants function properly for fire protection. During testing, residents might notice their water becomes discolored in areas near the hydrant tests.
If you experience discolored water, the Springfield Fire Department advises running cold water from the tap until it clears. It’s also recommended to postpone washing laundry until the tap runs clear. Typically, the water clears within about five minutes.
For more information on hydrant testing, contact the Springfield Fire Department at 788-8474. CWLP customers may call Water Dispatch at 789-2323 (extension two) if water discoloration persists or for other questions on water quality.
