A combined total of 13 active police investigations will be unified under one entity as NSW Police aim to suppress a rise in violence involving organized crime figures operating on the streets.

The new over-arching task force, named Falcon, is modelled off previous similar enterprises and has the goal of preventing a gang war on the streets.

The task force, led by Superintendent Jason Box, will consist of 150 staff, including 100 detectives.

Deputy Commissioner David Hudson indicated that the task force would feature a “suppression arm,” which includes officers patrolling the streets to prevent further violence.

“We believe there is conflict within organized criminal networks at the moment. We believe it is related to drug supply matters,” Hudson remarked at a press conference today.

Hudson said that of the 25 organised crime murders since 2021, 20 had been solved and five continued to be pursued.

And he vowed police would charge not only any shooters, but those suspected of any involvement, from storing a stolen getaway car, to commissioning the murder.

“We will not tolerate these lawless thugs getting out there with their vendetta against each other and putting in danger members of our community,” NSW Police and Counter Terrorism Minister Yasmin Catley said.

She said Box, the officer leading the task force, was “one of the best in the business”.

The 13 investigations being subsumed into Task Force Falcon include murders, arson attacks, public place shootings, an attempted kidnapping, and organised crime activity, dating back to December 2024.

Most took place in Sydney’s west or south-west.

Hudson confirmed some links between several of the cases had already been established.
