A Melbourne family experienced a fortunate escape when a car crashed through their living room last night.

The driver lost control of their ute, hitting two fences before crashing into the Deer Park house on Robinsons Road around 8:20 PM, where Yohana Birhana and one of her four children were present.

Birhana’s 11-year-old daughter, who is autistic, was sitting on the couch by the window. The window was pushed forward due to the car impact.

Birhana described her daughter’s shock as the car smashed through the window she was sitting in front of. (Nine)

Miraculously, nobody was hurt.

“She was lucky. It just pushed her with the couch, pushed her forward,” Birhana said.

“My daughter is non-verbal. She doesn’t understand much. She noticed that something happened, but she couldn’t fully grasp what it was.”

“She was shocked. She was just shaking.”

The 18-year-old Deer Park driver and his teenage passenger also escaped uninjured.

The driver was issued with penalty notices for failing to have proper control of his car and for not carrying his license.

“The boy, he apologised to me. He said sorry. I’ve seen him, he was OK,” Birhana said.

“You can imagine we were so lucky… God saved us.”
