Deputy Leader of the Victorian Liberal Party, Sam Groth, has addressed the recent calls for his resignation. These demands stem from allegations that he improperly used a vehicle funded by taxpayers to travel from the 2024 Australian Open to his residence on the Mornington Peninsula.

This morning, Groth released a statement in response to an article that suggests he utilized a chauffeur-driven car, designated for Liberal MP Georgie Crozier, to transport himself and his wife from their Rye home to the Melbourne-based tennis event in January 2024.

In his statement, the former tennis player insisted on the importance of “clarifying a few things”. He denied any misuse of the vehicle, asserting that his attendance at the 2024 Australian Open was both personal and official.

“When I get a chance for my wife and family to join me, I jump at the chance and pay for it myself.

Opposition Leader Brad Battin stated today that he intends to have a private discussion with Groth about these allegations but does not believe Groth should resign.

“I expect all members of parliament to follow the rules and behave appropriately, whether it’s at work or not at work, it’s a simple expectation I have,” Battin said.

“Sam Groth has been working very hard in his role and we all know that. We’ve seen him out and about whether it’s in parliament or going out to events ensuring he’s engaging with his community.

“I’m confident that Sam’s followed the rules and I’ve seen his declarations when he comes into towns that were recently reported for the events that he stays at.”
