POOLER, Ga. () – Pooler officials held a groundbreaking for the Quacco Road expansion, as the city experiences rapid growth.

The city rejoiced over the $25 million initiative, marking one of the most substantial single investments in the history of Pooler. The project is designed to ease traffic congestion for motorists frequently using this heavily traveled road. Numerous city leaders, alongside Rep. Buddy Carter, were present for the occasion.

“This substantial investment marks a noteworthy achievement, showcasing Pooler’s continuous success in surpassing expectations,” remarked Pooler Mayor Karen Williams. “The expansion of Quacco Road has been a long-awaited development, underscoring our city’s swift growth and the increasing demands on our transport infrastructure. As Pooler grows, so must our infrastructure.”

The project will introduce a new four-lane highway that will extend from Blue Moon Crossing, going beyond Canal Bank Road. It will incorporate a newly signalized crossroad, enhancements to traffic lights, as well as sidewalks and a multi-use pathway.

“…moving through our city is an important aspect of city government and most importantly, whether it’s police, fire or public safety,” Heath Lloyd, Pooler city manager said. “Wider roads really help with that response time. And so, this is an improvement that’s going to touch all aspects of living in the city of Pooler…”

The investment is made possible through voter approved SPLOST VII funding. City officials said they do not have plans to close the road during construction, but they urged drivers to remain patient throughout the process.

“There is a phase two project that we hope to move forward right behind to expand this whole network,” Lloyd said. “Also, we’re working with our partners with Chatham County. They are expanding on the other side of Interstate 95. So, we believe that this entire structure will be expanded to four lanes in the near future.”

The project is projected to wrap up in just under three years.
